Growing the Next Generation of ARCTIC Skiers
The Iqaluit Ski Association is dedicated to growing cross-country skiing for youth while supporting lifelong participation for people of all ages and abilities.
Through accessible, high-quality programs, we focus on skill development, confidence, and a strong sense of belonging.
Our approach is grounded in inclusive coaching, mentorship, and removing barriers to trails, equipment, and training.
Skiing in Iqaluit is more than a sport—it is a natural expression of movement, resilience, and connection to the land.
In 2024, Nunavut sent its first-ever cross-country ski team to the Arctic Winter Games—a milestone that highlights years of collective effort and community investment in youth sport. This achievement was made possible through volunteer coaches, engaged parents, local partnerships, and the dedication of young athletes training in demanding Arctic conditions. Organizations such as the Aniirajak Ski and Adventure Club—meaning “playing outside” in Inuktut—have played a key role in fostering inclusive participation, family involvement, skill development, and access to equipment and trails. Cross-country skiing in Iqaluit is not an imported practice, but an extension of northern endurance, movement, and land knowledge, deeply aligned with Inuit values of perseverance, cooperation, and respect for the environment.
Cross-country skiing in Iqaluit has grown into a strong, community-driven program supporting both participation and competitive development.

OUR LOCATION
OUR LOCATION
The SkiCan is a cozy, wood-heated chalet that serves as the heart of our club — a welcoming place to gather, warm up, and share stories after a ski. It also houses our small workshop for gear maintenance and repairs.
